Benefits of Journaling

Journaling is an important self-care practice that allows you to record your feelings without the fear of criticism or judgement from anybody. Writing in a journal or diary helps our reflections which provides more clarity and awareness in life, a release for every suppressed negative emotion, activates our gratitude, serves as a great source of creating content and ideas, helps to track our progress, and a great place to capture our best lives’ experience so we can reexperience our joyful times.

1.       Serves as a blueprint for an ideal and successful day

Your journal can be used to calibrate and script your ideal day ahead.  Before bedtime or early in the morning, you can plan your day by outlining in your journal or diary your activities for the day beginning with your most important activities, that if fulfilled can multiply your income, happiness and success. This makes you more committed, focused and disciplined to making the most of your day. Remember, you can only actualize what you envision and pursue.

2.       Platform to birthing great ideas.

Journaling encourages reflection, brainstorming and using more of your imaginations which releases great ideas. By simply writing in your journals or diaries at least five brilliant ideas that can serve as a game changer for your business, career, education, health and every other area of your life can actually revolutionize your entire life. Therefore, journaling is an avenue for elevating your creativity and unmasking the genius in you as it gets you to listen to your inner voice of ingenuity.

3.       Increases clarity in life

Through journaling, you get to review your life goals and values, as well as track your progress, which leads to more clarity and awareness in life. In the period of your journaling, you can practice the KWINK rule. The rule states that if I Know What I Now Know, what are the things I would do more of or less of or stop doing entirely? This rule will help you do more of what healthily increases your happiness and discontinue the things that steals your energy, joy, and progress. Hence, journaling offers a place to work through confusion to becoming more purposeful, focused and joyful.

4.       Activates deliberate gratitude

We, as humans, function on a default negative bias. We tend to overlook the successes and progress we have made to focus more on our inadequacies and unmet needs. For example, someone may deliver a very powerful presentation but still be disturbed and dispirited by the one negative comment that was made about the presentation.

But journaling activates our deliberate gratitude. By simply writing three great things that happened to us at the end of a day can direct our focus to celebrating, enjoying and re-experiencing our daily victories which leads to more joy, self-confidence, fulfillment, and improved overall wellbeing.

5.       Journaling is a great source of creating content

Writing your notable life experiences and lessons in your journal or diaries can be a great source of creating content if you are a comedian/comedienne, writer, song writer, etc. Your life experiences and lessons can be relatable to other people, which when shared can be a source of inspiration to them.

6.       An outlet of anxiety, stress, and other low energy emotions.

Robin Sharma once said, The quickest way out of hard emotions is to have the wisdom and courage to go straight into them. Feel them to heal them. Name them to let go of them. Put a written voice to the dark energy of life’s burdens to dissolve them. Journaling helps to process through disappointments, hurts, resentments and frustrations; thereby releasing these toxic emotions. By simply writing down every suppressed negative emotion and seeking solutions to them, we get back to being our best selves.

7.       Consolidate memory

Journaling helps to strengthens our acquired knowledge into our long-term memory. Thus, journaling reinforces our daily learning.  It also helps us to capture our best lives’ experiences thereby enabling us to reexperience our joyful times.
