The Power of Self-talk

Have you ever wondered what your negative self-talk is really doing to you. Like you made a mistake and then you said to yourself, “I can’t seem to do anything right!”, or “I’m clumsy? or “Why did I do that? I’m so stupid!”. Other times we say to ourselves: “I’m ugly. No one finds me attractive”, “I’m not the best, so no one will like my idea”, etc.  It might seem harmless at first. But have you ever wondered what saying such negative words every day is doing to your self-esteem, and saying those words for a lifetime is doing to your self-identity? This will be discussed thoroughly in this blog.

You will never rise above your self-talk because it is an indicator of how you see yourself. You cannot see yourself as average and perform any better. We do believe what we continuously say to ourselves, and act accordingly to them. It has been said that our brains are like supercomputers, and our self-talk is the program that it runs. Our mind is constantly eavesdropping on our self-talk. Our negative self-talks put a limitation on our mental capacities and potentials, paralyses our faith and drains our inspirations and motivations, thereby discouraging us from actively taking actions to improve our performance. It makes us susceptible to dejection and hopelessness, draining our joy, and this can affect our relationship with others.

It doesn’t matter the prevailing circumstances; it is quite helpful if we talk to ourselves based on the great future we desire or the ideal persons we really desire to become. This is faith. Simply doing this spur us into action on becoming our very best selves, because our self-talks can become our self-fulfilling prophecy.

To rewire your self-identity which leads to joy, improve in performance, and success, you need to get your self-talks right. Yes, we are flawed and may not be perfect as humans, but we need to have our sub-conscious mind running on the right words, which leads us to becoming the best versions of ourselves. Like I have said before, your self-talks should be a reflection of the ideal person you desire to become. It is important that we learn to replace the negative self-talks with positive self-talks. Learn to say, “I love myself for who I am”, “I’m deserving of everything good”, “I have talents and traits that make me unique”, “I’m strong and capable and I can get through this”.
