We live in a world of distraction; where there are many things actively vying for our attention and time. This prevents us from making the most out of our day. But living a focused life, which is synonymous to living a life of purpose, can lead to quite a huge gain whereby we get to achieve our most important life goals. This is great, right? So, in this post I will be discussing with you important things you need to know about focus, the role of focus in successful living and how to maintain a focused life.
Focus means
to set your mind on purpose to attain a particular set goal. It is an act of
concentrating your attention towards a particular goal at hand while also
avoiding distractions.
· Our unwavering focus imparts us the strength to endure our present unpleasant situations. Someone focused on a project will see any setback as an opportunity to learn and improve. Whereas when one loses focus, he can become perplexed easily. He magnifies his setbacks and gives up easily.
Focus creates feelings. Whatever you are feeling or thinking right now is a result of your focus. We seem to act according to our state of mind. When we are happy, we view ourselves positively, act positively and achieve positive results. Conversely, when we are sad, we view ourselves negatively, act negatively and achieve negative results. So, when you control your focus, you control your feelings. Also, the state of the mind determines the quality of your focus. When you lose interest in something, your mind as well as your focus will be off it.
1. 1. Make a plan
To be more
focused in life, you need to plan your life. Write down important things
(according to their priority) you need to achieve, the steps needed to achieve
them, potential obstacles and how to overcome them, and give it a deadline.
Then act on that plan every day (starting from the most important goal), even
though it takes few minutes of your day. Remember, if you wait for perfect
conditions you will never get anything done. If you don’t make plan of the things
you need to achieve, you might end up doing less important things or even
fulfilling other people’s plans.
1. 2. Build healthy relationships
Isaac
Newton said, “If I have seen further, it is by standing
on the shoulders of giants”. There is a great need for getting the right
persons in your life; people who are well-informed, good and kind to help guide
you. You can also meet these people by their books, videos and audios. There
are always people who well versed in the area of goal you are trying to achieve,
asking for their help will go a long way to ensure your success.
1. 3. Avoid taking journeys into the past
The
past has its way of ruining the future. Looking into the past, you will see:
unfaithfulness, imperfection, achievements that brings complacency into the
present and future, heartbreaking events, disappointments, pains, failures,
etc. Always look for ways to improve using lessons from the past, not dwelling
on the failure and regrets of the past.
1. 4. Avoid anxiety and unbelief
You
need faith to achieve your goals. Anxiety and unbelief in the actualization of
our goals cripples our focus and ability to act effectively.
1. 5. Develop patience
Anyone
that don’t have patience cannot focus well on his goals. An idea may be small at first, but if you
work on it for a bit longer it will unravel and marvel you with incredible
results.
Focus is the key ingredient of success. When you are focused on your goal, you will find opportunity in the least expected places to successfully accomplish that goal.
